[IO Highlight] Visit from Okayama University, Japan

  • On Monday (23/10/2017), delegations from Okayama University, Japan, attended a meeting with Universitas Indonesia, taking place at International Office Meeting Room, 1st  floor, Central Administration Building UI Campus Depok. The delegations were  Prof. Dr. Hiroshi Kanzaki, Executive Vice President for International Affairs, Ms. Yukari Shibata, Section Manager of International Affairs Division Okayama University. The delegations were welcomed by Dr. Anom Bowolaksono, MSc. Coordinator of of the Work and Environmental Safety Unit, Lecturer of Faculty of Mathemathics and Natural Science. also attending the meeting were, Mrs. Alrida Madame Hutapea, Coordinator for International Mobility, and Mrs. Nurul Tri W, Coordinator for Global Engagement Partnership, International Office UI. The agenda of the meeting was to discuss about the negotiation of students exchange and the plan to collaborate in short programs, as well as UI-RESOLV program.

  •   Prof. David Lordkipanidze is the first Director General of the Georgian National Museum (GNM). He oversees transformation-renovation process of the GNM from a Soviet-style institution into a vibrant space for culture, education and science. Under his leadership 6 Museums united under the GNM umbrella have been already renovated and opened its doors to the public offering modern, top-level exhibitions. Professor Lordkipanidze had led the discovery of the earliest known hominid remains outside of Africa at Dmanisi in the republic of Georgia. This work thrust Georgia in to modern paleoanthropology and has transformed our comprehension of the biogeography of early hominids, revolutionizing understanding of their morphology, population, environment, culture, and dispersal.   • Universitas Indonesia (UI) held the Scholars Summit 2017, international conference presented academics from the world’s leading universities to discuss the global issues faced by international community to seek solutions in supporting government programs to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Opening Ceremony was started with welcome remarks by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Anis, Rector Universitas Indonesia, followed by Dr. Basuki Yusuf Iskandar MA, Head of Research and Development, Ministry of Communication and Information. The event was opened by the Expert Staff of the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Paulina Pannen. The keynote speech was delivered by Director General for Science, Technology Resources and Higher Education, Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, Prof. dr. Ali Ghufron Mukti, Ph.D. which took place on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at Makara Art Center UI Depok campus. This Scholar Summit 2017 was chaired by Prof. Melda Kamil Ariadno, Ph.D. With the theme of “Shaping the Better World”, UI Scholar Summit 2017 discusses any related findings divided into three clusters which are Health Sciences, Science and Technology ,& Social and Humanities. Scholar Summit 2017 is a new breakthrough that UI does for higher education nationwide. This forum had brought together academics and cross-disciplinary scholars from different parts of the world in order to collaborate to contribute in developing a much better world for the next generation. Scholar Summit 2017 was attended by more than 150 foreign speakers from more than 20 countries around the world. The Plenary Session presented various prominent experts from renowned universities. In Clusters of Health Sciences presents Prof. dr. Nico P.E. Vermeuleen from Vrije University – Netherlands; from the field of Science & Technology presents Prof. Myung Hoon Sunwoo, Ajou University – South Korea; Olivier Rukundo PhD, Norwegian University of Science and Technology – Norway; Prof. Shunichiro Ogura, Tokyo Institute of Technology – Japan. While in the field of Social Humanities present Prof. Stephen Oppenheimer, Oxford University – UK; Prof. Jan De Goede, University of Lodz – Poland. Andrew Mitchell, Melbourne University – Australia. Universitas Indonesia also features speakers from various faculties in UI. While the Chamber Session was held in three different faculties namely Health Cluster, Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Law, on the second day, Wednesday, 11 October 2017. Prof. Dr. Ir. Muhammad Anis, conveyed, “As a research and community service center, UI is aware of the importance of the role of university as “knowledge creation” which one of them can contribute to participate in solving nation problems and running various acceleration efforts of state development. A number of problems emerging in the country as well as in the world such as poverty, hunger, lack of fair and equitable health services, quality education, clean water and sanitation management, renewable energy solutions, unemployment, economic growth, industrial innovation and infrastructure, development and other key points to be discussed in the Scholar Summit 2017. Rector Anis has also emphasized “It is expected that this Conference will be able to produce solutions to the problems of the nation through the thinking of UI academics and collaborate with academics from abroad. Ms Helene Hellmark Knutsson, Swedish Minister for Higher Education and Research on Higher Education and Research as a Basis for Economic Growth – A Swedish Experience at Apung Meeting Room, Central Library, Universitas Indonesia. A delegation of six rectors from some of Sweden’s most renowned Universities has joined Minister Hellmark Knutsson’s visit to Indonesia. The delegations were H. E.
