Waseda University invites UI students to participate in “Building Global Governance Capacity to Achieve SDGs: An Asian-European Inter-regional Training Program” under Waseda University’s Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies (GSAPS) International Relations Program. The program is aimed for those of you who are planning to study at a Graduate or Doctorate level program. In addition, this program is fully supported by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).
GRADUATE PROGRAM
ELIGIBILITIES
- Nationals of countries recognized by the Japanese Government who are newly coming to Japan for the purpose of studying at GSAPS,
- Born on and after April 2,1988,
- Must fulfill one of the following requirements:
- Have graduated or are scheduled to graduate from a university in Japan by September 2023,
- Have received a bachelor’s degree from the National Institution for Academic Degrees and Quality Enhancement of Higher Education or are scheduled to receive such a degree by September 2023,
- Have completed 16 years of standard school education outside Japan or are scheduled to complete such education by September 2023,
- Have completed a more than 3 years program in a university outside Japan or are scheduled to complete such education and hold bachelor’s degree by September 2023,
- Have been enrolled at a university for more than three years (or have completed 15 years of school education overseas or are scheduled to complete such education by September 2023 and have been recognized by the GSAPS as having earned a specified number of credits with an excellent academic record.
- Determined by the GSAPS to be mentally and physically fit to be studying overseas,
- Able to arrive in Japan in early-mid September 2023,
- Successful applicants must newly obtain a “Student (ryuugaku 留学)” visa at the embassy/consulate in the country of their nationality prior to their arrival in Japan and enter Japan with the newly obtained Student visa,
(Please note that scholarship will be ceased to grant if applicants enter Japan without newly obtaining the student visa) - While studying in Japan, scholarship recipients are expected to actively be involved in their local and school communities. By doing so, they are expected to contribute to the internationalization of Japanese society and promote mutual understanding between Japan and their respective home country. After graduation, they are expected to maintain close contact with their alma mater and help improve the relations between Japan and their home country by cooperating with projects (e.g., surveys) conducted by the Japanese embassy/consulate in their home country etc.

DOCTORATE PROGRAM
ELIGIBILITIES
- Nationals of countries recognized by the Japanese Government who are newly coming to Japan for the purpose of studying at GSAPS,
- Born on and after April 2,1988,
- Must fulfill one of the following requirements:
- Holders of a Master’s Degree, Professional Master’s Degree, or Professional Doctoral Degree in Law or those who are scheduled to receive such a degree by September 2023,
- Holders of a Master’s Degree, Professional Master’s Degree, or an equivalent from an institution overseas or those who are scheduled to receive such a degree by September 2023,
- Those who have completed postgraduate programs and received a degree equivalent to a Master’s Degree from United Nations University or those who are scheduled to receive such a degree by September 2023,
- Those who have been recognized by GSAPS as possessing academic credentials equivalent or superior to those of holders of a Master’s Degree, Professional Master’s Degree, or Professional Doctoral Degree in Law through an individual entrance requirements screening process and are scheduled to reach 24 years of age by September 2023.
- Determined by the GSAPS to be mentally and physically fit to be studying overseas,
- Able to arrive in Japan in early-mid September 2023,

SCHOLARSHIP
The scholarship provided will be in the form of monthly allowance, travel expenses, tuition fees, and housing.
