The Asian Students Environment Platform (ASEP) program started in 2012. In the Program, university students from Asia discussed environmental issues through fieldwork, learning about the natural environment, history, culture, and differences in values of each country. The ASEP program was initiated by a memorandum of understanding signed in 2010 between AEON Environmental Foundation and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD), which is part of the United Nations. This confirmed that both parties would work together to promote “the United Nations Decade on Biodiversity 2011-2020”, and one of the objectives was to promote environmental education for youth about biodiversity. This year, ASEP will have its 11th year of holding. As a 10-year program, we will terminate the program after this year. Thus, this year will be the final year. The Program provides an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students from Japan and other Asian countries to learn about environmental issues, exchange opinions, and formulate proposals using English as a common language, with the aim of developing human resources who can make a globally active role in the environmental field. By 2022, the total number of participating students in the Program has reached 763.
