Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan Student Exchange Program

Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan offers a student exchange program for undergraduates or graduates in semester 3 (min) and has never participated in any program from the International Office.

There are two programs offered (students must only choose one):

• YSEP (Research-oriented program)
• ACAP (Course-oriented program)

ELIGIBILITY

FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

1. UI Student with active status.
2. Students should be at the minimum, in their 3rd semester at UI, at the time of application.
3. Have not registered 144 credits at UI (Including credits on the last semester at UI before departing for exchange) by the time of application.
4. Mandatory to transfer credits exchange period to UI.
5. Will not graduate from UI until the exchange period is completed.
6. GPA min. 3.2 (all major)
7. English Proficiency Standard:
   – TOEFL PBT min. 550
   – TOEFL ITP min. 550
   – TOEFL iBT min. 80
   – IELTS min. 6.5
8. Mandatory to purchase International Insurance that covers COVID-19 treatment
9. Mandatory to have a passport before applying.
10. Students who have previously participated/enrolled in any international program from International Office UI or any other opportunities including IISMA are NOT eligible.
11. Not currently applying for another exchange or study abroad with a fee-paying program, e.g.: IISMA.

FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS

1. UI Student with active status.
2. Students should be at the minimum, in their 2nd semester at UI, at the time of application.
3. Have not registered 40 credits at UI (Including credits on the last semester at UI before departing for exchange) by the time of application.
4. Mandatory to transfer credits exchange period to UI.
5. Will not graduate from UI until the exchange period is completed.
6. GPA min. 3.2 (all major)
7. English Proficiency Standard:
   – TOEFL PBT min. 550
   – TOEFL ITP min. 550
   – TOEFL iBT min. 80
   – IELTS min. 6.5
8. Mandatory to purchase International Insurance that covers COVID-19 treatment
9. Mandatory to have a passport before applying.
10. Never participate in IISMA and other physical exchange programs and never participate in abroad program with a scholarship that manages by IO UI.

DOCUMENT REQUIREMENTS

1. A faculty recommendation letter signed by the Dean or Vice Dean with particular information needs to be included. Please read “NOTES” for detailed information about it.
2. Legalized latest transcripts (GPA min. 3.2)
3. IRS for last semester at UI before departing exchange
4. English Proficiency Certificate
5. CV
6. Motivation Letter
7. Statement letter of willingness not to leave the country if the faculty does not give permission
8. Written approval letter of departure from parents
9. Study plan (click here to download study plan) *if the faculty doesn’t provide a study plan form

All documents have to be merged in 1 (ONE) pdf format file in the order listed above. Send the documents to outbound@ui.ac.id at the latest on 11 October 2024.

IMPORTANT NOTES

• For ACAP nominations, please include the “ ACAP Course-Oriented Program Sheet” prepared by each applicant (Click here to download the document)
• For 2nd- or 3rd-year undergraduate students, an official Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) result or equivalent document is required as they are supposed to take courses conducted in Japanese

1. The Outbound Exchange Scheme that your faculty support and acknowledge. (only online or only offline or both online and offline schemes are supported and acknowledged).
2. The student will not graduate from UI until exchange program is completed.
3. Academics credits earned from exchange programs abroad can be converted transfered to UI.
