On Monday, August 1, 2016, Universitas Indonesia and University of New South Wales (UNSW) Australia held a collaborative scholars dialogue at Auditorium Soemadipradja & Taher (SnT), Faculty of Law, UI Campus, Depok. Twenty-four prominent scholars from UNSW and UI delivered their field of expertise at the event. The event was organized to implement the MOU between UI and UNSW. The event started at 9.00am and lasted until 5.30pm with approximately 60 attendants ranging from UI lecturers, staff members, and students.
The event started with potential collaboration dialogue led by Prof. Melda Kamil Ariadno, S.H, LL.M, Ph.D, Head of International Office UI, and Prof. Laura Poole-Warren, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research Training) and Dean of Graduate Research UNSW. Both sides had a lively discussion on possible collaboration that could be established between UI and UNSW. UNSW also introduced overviews of their university to the audience. Later, the event was officially opened by Prof. Melda Kamil Ariadno, S.H, LL.M, that marked the start of the first panel discussion session.
The first and the second panel session had Muthia Pramesti, MM, CFP as the moderator and covered Law, Economics, and Social Sciences. Dr. Tanya Jakimow (UNSW) and Dr. Dra. Indera Ratna Irawati Pattinasarany, M.A. (UI) presented related topic on Social Enterprise, Dr. Minako Sakai (UNSW) and Dr. Nining Indroyono Soesilo (UI), M.A talked about the Creative Economy, on the other hand Dr. Felix Tan (UNSW) and Muhammad Rifki Shihab, M.Sc. (UI) gave insights of their researches in I.T. Based Industry.
The second panel that began after a break brought Dr. Melissa Crouch (UNSW) and Sri Laksmi Anindita, SH. MH (UI) talked about Administrative Court. Then it was followed by Madeline Gleeson (UNSW) and Arie Afriansyah, S.H., M.I.L., Ph.D. (UI) on Refugee/International Law.
The third panel was facilitated by Dr. Ede Surya Darmawan, S.KM., M.DM covering the topic of Public Health and Policy. Dr. Maria Veronica Chandra – Hioe (UNSW) and Dr. Rina Agustina, M.Sc., Ph.D. (UI) presented their findings on Food Quality. Liza Doyle (UNSW) and Evy Yunihastuti (UI), MD, PhD talked about HIV, while Dr. Jerico Pardosi (UNSW) gave presentation on Reproductive System. In addition, Dr. Rachel Grove (UNSW) and Prof. Dr. dr. Hardiono D. Pusponegoro Sp.A(K) (UI) talked about Autism.
The last session was led by Dr. Ir. M. Asvial, M.Eng as a moderator, bringing sustainability and the built environment. Dr. Juan Pablo Escobe-Diaz (UNSW) and Dr. Nyoman Suwartha, ST., MT., MAgr. (UI) researched about green technology. Furthermore, Dr. Alexander Soeriyadi (UNSW) and Dr. rer. nat. Agustino Zulys, S.Si., M.Sc. (UI) talked about their findings on Chemistry. As the last speakers, Dr. Riza Yosia Sunindijo (UNSW) and Mohammed Ali Berawi, M.Eng.Sc., Ph.D. (UI) presented about Corporate Social Responsibility.
The closing ceremony took place after the last session and the participants took a commemorative photograph. The scholars dialogue has provided an exciting platform to capitalize both parties’ mutual scientific strengths, build on existing partnerships, and establish possible new collaborations in the future.
