On Thursday, 14 May 2026, Universitas Indonesia (UI) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Hong Kong Association for International Communication of Higher Education Limited (HKAICHE). The signing ceremony, held in Meeting Room B of the Rectorate Building at the UI Depok Campus, aims to accelerate UI’s internationalization efforts and significantly expand its global educational network, particularly within China.
The signing was attended directly by the Rector of Universitas Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU, along with the university’s executive leadership team. Representing HKAICHE was Xu Junshuo, the Director of the institution.
The centerpiece of this strategic agreement is the establishment and operation of the UI-China Academic Collaboration Center – South China, located in Shenzhen, China. This collaborative center is designed to serve as the primary hub connecting UI with various academic institutions, government agencies, and corporations across the South China region, including Hong Kong and Macau.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Heri Hermansyah emphasized that this partnership is tailored to unlock broader avenues for academic mobility between Indonesia and China. “We hope this collaboration will encourage more students and academics from China to study and further their education in Indonesia, specifically at UI. Beyond strengthening the academic ties between the two nations, we also expect this collaboration to deliver a tangible impact on society,” he stated.
Echoing this sentiment, HKAICHE Director Xu Junshuo described the newly initiated collaboration center as the foundational step toward a more holistic and expansive strategic partnership in higher education. He highlighted the immense potential of this collaboration in driving talent development, enhancing academic mobility, and strengthening cross-border research initiatives.
Moving forward, UI and HKAICHE have agreed to develop a comprehensive range of educational initiatives. These encompass executive and professional training, as well as formal degree programs at the Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral levels. Furthermore, the partnership will place a strong focus on bolstering cross-disciplinary joint research to produce world-class international scientific publications.
The launch of this collaboration center marks a significant milestone for Universitas Indonesia in elevating its academic branding in China. It also serves as a strategic foundation for the university’s long-term vision of developing a dedicated UI-China Campus.
