Universitas Indonesia and RMIT Advance Strategic Research and Postgraduate Collaboration for National Development

Universitas Indonesia (UI) recently welcomed a delegation from RMIT to evaluate and expand their ongoing academic partnership, currently in its second year. The meeting focused on strengthening higher education and research initiatives specifically designed to support Indonesia’s national development and improve its global standing.

The delegation from RMIT included:

  • Tantia Dian Permata Indah – Director, Indonesia
  • Annisa (Icha) Istighfari – Project Lead Indonesia

The Universitas Indonesia delegation was led by Ir. Jaka Fajar Fatriansyah, M.Sc., Ph.D., ASEAN Eng., IPU, Head of the Sub-Directorate of International Education Development, Directorate for Internationalization of Education, joined by:

  • apt. Roshamur Cahyan Forestrania, M.Sc., Ph.D. – Head of Sub-Directorate for Research Funding, Directorate Research Funding and Ecosystem
  • Yunitha Fajarwati S.Hum – Section Head, International Partnership
  • Hanny Kemala Fauster – International Visit Officer

During the dialogue, discussions centered heavily on expanding in-depth Master’s (S2) and Doctoral (S3) research programs. Both institutions agreed on the importance of building a collaborative ecosystem across key sectors, particularly in science, economics, and community development. To ensure sustainability as the partnership grows, both teams emphasized the need for a phased rollout of new programs, backed by regular evaluations and capacity-building efforts.

Securing long-term operational and financial support was a major talking point throughout the visit. Both parties acknowledged that the continued success of this initiative requires active backing from government bodies, higher education networks, and other key stakeholders. The visit wrapped up with a mutual agreement to further explore viable funding sources and strengthen operational frameworks, ensuring the partnership effectively boosts Indonesia’s capacity and competitiveness on the global stage.
