Universitas Indonesia and the Embassy of Jordan Explore Double Degree Programs and Strengthen Academic Ties

Universitas Indonesia (UI) hosted a delegation from the Embassy of Jordan to discuss expanding academic partnerships and leveraging strong bilateral relations for educational collaboration. The meeting underscored UI’s ongoing commitment to internationalization and opening new pathways for global engagement.

The delegation from the Embassy of Jordan was led by Alaa Al-Edwan, Deputy Head of Mission of Jordan. He was accompanied by:

  • Mr. Gufron – Protocol & Public Relation Officer

The Universitas Indonesia delegation was led by Prof. Ir. Mahmud Sudibandriyo, M.Sc., Ph.D., Vice-Rector for Academic and was accompanied by:

  • Finda Salsabila, M.A. – Head of Partnership and Hospitality, Directorate of Public Relations, Media, Government and International Affairs
  • Yunitha Fajarwati, S.Hum. – Section Head, International Education Partnership, Directorate for Internationalization of Education

During the meeting, the Jordanian Embassy expressed a strong desire to utilize the robust bilateral relationship between the two nations to foster meaningful academic collaboration. Both parties identified key focus areas for potential cooperation, which include health, science, engineering, social sciences, and Islamic and Arabic studies.

A major highlight of the discussion was the initiation of Double Degree programs encompassing both outbound and inbound mobility. UI and the Embassy explored various academic models, such as the 2+2 and 3+1 schemes. The Embassy shared promising news that three universities in Jordan have already expressed active interest in collaborating with UI to establish these Double Degree initiatives. Furthermore, the discussion addressed the administrative requirements for these partnerships, specifically highlighting the need to process the accreditation of UI’s postgraduate degrees in Jordan.

To effectively support and manage these initiatives, a proposal was made to develop a common technical platform that would involve both the universities and their respective ministries. To ensure continuous progress and effective monitoring of the collaboration, both parties established clear communication channels, agreeing to conduct subsequent follow-ups via email.

As a concrete next step, the Embassy of Jordan will facilitate direct connections between UI and the interested Jordanian universities and will invite UI representatives to a follow-up Zoom meeting to further detail the academic partnerships.
