During the meeting, discussions centered on the operationalization of the UI–UQ Centre. UQ announced a call for its faculty members to collaborate with UI faculty through cooperation schemes facilitated by the Centre. Both parties acknowledged the strong history of student mobility over the past five years, with numerous UI students studying at UQ through dual degrees, exchange programs, and fee-paying programs. To further streamline this, UI announced plans to designate specific staff to coordinate documents and centralized processes for student mobility.
UI proposed expanding the flagship partnership, specifically regarding funding mechanisms between the two institutions. Additionally, both universities agreed to explore opportunities for joint research grant applications. Mr. Rongyu Li highlighted UQ’s strength in innovation and entrepreneurship, noting that UQ is a leader in Australia for intellectual property protection and holds a high ranking for innovation and impact.
In the realm of entrepreneurship, UI proposed a collaboration to support start-up development, noting that UI currently provides funding for such initiatives. UQ shared that their student start-ups are supported by both university funding and industry partners. Beyond technology, UQ highlighted its excellence in agriculture and food sciences, opening broader opportunities for collaboration.
On the academic front, UI announced plans to open more dual degree programs with UQ this year. UQ expressed a strong interest in developing cooperation in social sciences, emphasizing that expertise in international relations and conflict management is crucial for fostering collaborative and cohesive societies. The meeting concluded with UI expressing enthusiasm to immediately implement the programs under the UI–UQ Centre framework.
