Universitas Indonesia and The University of Queensland Strengthen Coordination on Student Mobility and Application Systems

Universitas Indonesia (UI) recently held a strategic meeting with representatives from The University of Queensland (UQ) to discuss the enhancement of student application management, particularly for joint and dual degree programs. The dialogue focused on the potential of the UI–UQ Centre to serve as a centralized hub for student mobility and the streamlining of internationalization processes.

The delegation from The University of Queensland was led by Mr. Jogvan KLEIN, Director Future Students International, and was joined by:

  • Ms. Jinny Yun – Regional Manager South East Asia
  • Ms. Nadia Sarah – Principal Adviser (Southeast Asia)

The Universitas Indonesia delegation was led by Fadhilah Muslim, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., DIC, Director of Internationalization of Education, accompanied by:

  • Ir. Jaka Fajar Fatriansyah, M.Sc., Ph.D., ASEAN Eng., IPU – Head of the Sub-Directorate of International Education Development
  • Alfrida E. Madame Hutapea – Head of Sub-Directorate International Mobility Program

A primary focus of the meeting was the harmonization of application procedures for UI students pursuing studies at UQ. Currently, multiple education agents operate across various UI faculties, resulting in fragmented application experiences. UI proposed repositioning the UI–UQ Centre as a centralized hub to offer students clearer guidance and more consistent communication. While moving toward a more integrated system, both universities acknowledged the ongoing importance of education agents in assisting with non-academic essentials, including visa arrangements and accommodation logistics.

UQ reaffirmed its commitment to student support by exploring the possibility of sending dedicated admissions staff to UI during enrollment intakes to assist prospective applicants directly. Notably, it was disclosed that UI students who opt to apply independently—without the involvement of an education agent—are eligible for a 10% reduction in tuition fees. This incentive, combined with enhanced coordination between theD two institutions, aims to provide UI students with more transparent and accessible pathways for their academic advancement at The University of Queensland.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to further refine the roles and objectives of the UI–UQ Centre, ensuring that internationalization remains a smooth and student-centered process.
