Visit: Universitas Indonesia Strengthens Academic Ties with McGill University

Universitas Indonesia (UI) welcomed a delegation from McGill University to discuss the enhancement of academic collaboration and future joint initiatives. The meeting was led by Dr. drg. Nia Ayu Ismaniati, MDSc., Sp.Ort(K), UI’s Chief of Partnership and Entrepreneurship Officer, and attended by representatives from multiple UI faculties and directorates. McGill University was represented by Professor Christopher Manfredi, Provost and Executive Vice-President (Academic).

The UI delegation included:

  • Prof. drg. Lisa Amir, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry

  • Prof. dr. Mondastri Korib Sudaryo, MS., DSc., Dean of the Faculty of Public Health

  • Prof. Dr. Rr. Tutik Sri Hariyati, S.Kp., MARS, FISQua, CHAE., Dean of the Faculty of Nursing

  • Prof. Dr. apt. Arry Yanuar, M.Si., Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy

  • Dr. Erwin Panigoro, Director for Public Relations, Media, Government, and International Affairs

  • Ir. Winny Hanifiati Warouw, M.M., Director, Directorate for Area Development and Asset Commercialization

  • Dr. Muthia Pramesti, S.E., M.M., Assistant Director, International Education Program Development and Partnership, Directorate for Internationalization of Education

During the meeting, both universities reaffirmed that the UI–McGill Memorandum of Understanding remains valid until 2029, ensuring a strong foundation for long-term collaboration.

McGill highlighted its development of a one-year master’s program designed specifically for UI medical students, which has strengthened academic mobility between the two institutions. McGill’s Provost, Prof. Christopher Manfredi, expressed his enthusiasm for deepening the partnership, noting that both institutions bring valuable and complementary experiences—particularly in the health sciences.

Representatives from UI’s health-related faculties conveyed strong interest in expanding collaboration:

  • The Faculty of Medicine expressed appreciation for the ongoing fast-track program and confirmed that 14 students will depart for McGill in January 2026. They also emphasized the potential for collaboration in research and faculty capacity development.

  • The Faculty of Dentistry shared plans to adopt a similar academic pathway for their international class students to pursue master’s studies at McGill. They also announced that a McGill professor will be invited to speak at KPPPIKG, the faculty’s largest annual dental conference.

  • The Faculty of Pharmacy noted that McGill’s Department of Pharmacology aligns closely with their academic activities, presenting opportunities for joint research and academic exchange.

  • The Faculty of Nursing proposed scheduling an online meeting to further explore new forms of cooperation.

Prof. Manfredi welcomed these initiatives and reiterated McGill University’s commitment to fostering a stronger, more dynamic partnership with UI.

This meeting concluded with a shared commitment to expanding academic exchange, developing joint programs, and strengthening collaborative research across multiple disciplines.
