The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Indonesia (FISIP UI) was founded in 1968 and is one of the faculties with the most significant number of study programs and students at the University of Indonesia. Until the end of 2014, FISIP UI had 34 study programs, with 227 lecturers and 6,230 students (even semester 2014/2015) members of eight departments.

The Faculty is led by a Dean who is assisted by Deputy Deans who organize and manage Academic and Non-Academic Affairs. The Head of the Academic Quality Assurance Unit, the Data and Accreditation Office and the Head of Leadership Secretariat Unit administers the Dean. There is a staff who organizes and manages: staff assistance, internationalization, institutional coordination, development of information and communication technology, and cooperation with outside agencies. In addition, in formulating policy designs in research, publication, and venture management, the Dean is assisted by managers who implement faculty policies assisted by their staff.

Master's in Communication Science

The Communication Sciences Master Programme was established in 1982. It was founded as a specialization of the Social Sciences Master Programme. 1994 saw the discipline of programs: a specialized Master of Communication Management was established, one of a more practical nature and focused on management in the media and informational industries

Courses are conducted in the Salemba Campus, specifically in the IASTH Building, 6th floor (behind the former Rectorate).

To complete this program, students must complete courses and a thesis amounting to 45 credits (SKS).

The Communication Sciences Master Programme comprises two specializations, namely:

  1. The Communication Sciences Masters Class, also known as the Regular Class, focuses on media and communication studies
  2. The Communication Management Class focuses on managing media, promotional and marketing, corporational, and political communication.

The Regular Class is held during the day, while the Communication Management Class is held during the evenings.

Master's in Political Science

Universitas Indonesia’s Postgraduate Programme of Political Sciences is one of the principal centers of education, development, and research of Political Sciences in Indonesia. Oriented on issues of contemporary politics, it is one of the main pillars of a research university of international repute.

The aims of the Political Sciences Master Programme are:

  • To educate, train, hone, and encourage the research of those involved in fields of study and sectors of society related to the Political Sciences.
  • To evaluate and develop curricula of the program continuously and perpetually to adapt them to the needs of society at large and developments in the political sciences.
  • To develop the program’s human resources by aiding and facilitating staff in acquiring study opportunities to attain higher degrees and academic skills.
  • To embellish and improve the program’s quality of general, academic, and financial administration.

 

Master's in Criminology

The aims and objectives of the Criminology Master Study Program, Faculty of Social and Political Science UI are to prepare students to become citizens of the community who have the following characteristics :

  1. Superior criminology master graduates who are able to compete nationally and internationally;
  2. Graduates who are able to develop and upgrade the knowledge of criminology to be able to solve crime problems at the national and international level;
  3. The capability to develop new ideas through research which can be beneficial for the development of criminology education, practice and profession in Indonesia as well as internationally;
  4. Graduates who can produce scientific papers that can be published in national and international journals and can actively participate in various criminology seminars/conferences both nationally and internationally.

 

Master's in Sociology

The Sociology Master Program produces graduates who are independent in developing critical thinking skills, skilled in communication, and have high social awareness; those with a comprehensive sociological perspective with superior research methodological abilities. The Sociology Master program offers courses to prepare graduates to design social development and solve social problems to be more applicable. The Program produces sociologists who can develop an understanding, analysis, and theory about the development of Indonesian society in particular and its relationship with other communities; they have graduated as specialists in social policy planning for Indonesian culture.

 

Master's in Social Welfare Sciences

Objectives of the Master of Social Welfare Science:

  1. Carrying out quality research-based teaching processes that meet national and international standards.
  2. Produce superior research work with global standards with an interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary approach
  3. Improve students’ abilities and skills in solving social problems based on humanities values through the development of social plans and policies as well as the management of social development programs, both at the local, regional and national levels.

Master's in Anthropology

Objectives of the Anthropology Master Program:

  1. Produce graduates who are critical and appreciate the diversity and dynamics of social and cultural life in local, national, and global contexts.
  2. Produce graduates who can carry out anthropological research independently and collaboratively within and across disciplines to describe and analyze the reality of diversity and the dynamics of socio-cultural life.

Master's in International Relations

The aims of the International Relations Master Programme:

  1. 1. To produce high-quality graduates in International Relations who stringently uphold the ethics of academics, particularly in International Security Studies and International Politics and Economics, and concretely contribute to national interests in a globalized era.
    2.To produce graduates who possess comprehensive and profound scientific substance in their fields of study, supported by knowledge and understanding of an interdisciplinary nature.
    3.To generate an educated workforce of analytical skills, practical skills, and a comprehensive understanding of global issues, which may be utilized to advance Indonesia’s standing amidst an international society.
