Universitas Indonesia and Deakin University Explore Expanded Academic and Research Collaboration

Universitas Indonesia hosted a high-level meeting with representatives from Deakin University, Australia, to strengthen ongoing academic partnerships and explore new opportunities in student mobility, research collaboration, and joint programs.

Key Points of Discussion

  1. Existing Agreements – UI and Deakin University reaffirmed their active Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Agreement of Implementation (AoI) on Joint Degrees with FASILKOM (Faculty of Computer Science) and FISIP (Faculty of Social and Political Sciences).

  2. Increasing Mobility – Both institutions discussed ways to expand student and staff mobility, including guest lectures, short courses, and promotion of student exchange programs.

  3. Joint Summer/Short Course Program – Plans to launch a 3–4 week program combining joint lectures, co-curricular activities, industry visits, and cultural exchanges. Participants will earn 2 academic credits, with hosting determined by the relevant faculty. Point of contact at Deakin: Ms. Diana Gonzales.

  4. Double Degree with Honors – Deakin will share a list of eligible honors programs for potential double degree pathways.

  5. Summer Course with New Colombo Plan (NCP) – Deakin encouraged UI to submit a proposal for next year’s NCP funding to support short-term study programs.

  6. Regional Engagement – Collaboration opportunities highlighted during the upcoming ASEAN Australia Education Dialogue to be held in Penang, Malaysia, 1–2 December 2025.

  7. 2025 Blue Marble Study Tour – Deakin invited UI students, especially in STEM fields, to apply for the fully funded Blue Marble Study Tour, which includes free program fees and accommodation.

  8. Research Internship Program – A six-month research internship for undergraduate-to-master’s (S1–S2) or master’s-to-doctoral (S2–S3) students in STEM disciplines, supervised jointly by Deakin faculty. Tuition fees are waived, while participants are responsible for covering accommodation, living expenses, airfare, visa, and insurance.

This meeting reaffirmed the strong relationship between Universitas Indonesia and Deakin University and underscored their shared vision of expanding academic collaboration, enriching student experiences, and advancing joint research initiatives in science, technology, and innovation.
