UI has signed an MoU and Student Exchange Agreement with Peking University (QS Rank 14), reinforcing its commitment to its global network after recently breaking into the QS Top 200 (189). The signing was conducted by UI Rector, Prof. Heri Hermansyah, in Beijing on Monday (3/11).
Prof. Heri Hermansyah explained that this collaboration is part of UI’s strategy to achieve its target of entering the world’s top 100, as directed by the President of Indonesia. “UI wants to be a catalyst for Indonesia’s economic growth through strategic research and academic collaborations… with Chinese companies investing in Indonesia,” he stated. He added that the partnership marks a “new chapter in Indonesia’s education diplomacy” and helps realize the vision of a “superior, inclusive, and internationally competitive university.”
Representatives from UI’s Faculties of Engineering, Nursing, Administrative Sciences, and the Graduate School of Sustainable Development also attended, signing specific agreements covering student/lecturer exchanges and joint research.
Peking University President Gong Qihuang welcomed the collaboration, inviting top UI students for postgraduate studies and opening opportunities for UI lecturers as visiting professors. President Gong noted this would lead to “joint research, scientific publications, and cross-country student supervision.”
Indonesian Ambassador to China, Djauhari Oratmangun, praised the strategic move, assessing that educational cooperation is a vital foundation for strengthening economic relations. “With the trade value between Indonesia and China now five times that of trade with the United States, cooperation in research, education, and culture must be further deepened,” he said.
