Visit: Universitas Indonesia and Adelaide University Strengthen Partnership and Explore New Academic Opportunities

Universitas Indonesia (UI) welcomed a delegation from Adelaide University to discuss ongoing and future collaborations in international education, research, and academic mobility. The meeting reflected the strong commitment of both institutions to enhance mutual cooperation and provide broader opportunities for students and faculty.

The Adelaide University delegation consisted of:

  • Ms. Xiao Wen Tan, Interim Senior Manager, International Recruitment

  • Mr. Harris Gunawan, Manager, Student Recruitment

Representing Universitas Indonesia were:

  • Dr. Muthia Pramesti, S.E., M.M., Assistant Director for International Education Program Development and Partnership, Directorate for Internationalization of Education

  • Ms. Yunitha Fajarwati, S.Hum., Section Head for International Education Partnership, Directorate for Internationalization of Education

During the meeting, UI shared its strategic direction to expand international programs across a wider range of faculties, encouraging participation from diverse academic backgrounds. This initiative aligns with UI’s mission to increase global engagement and enhance the international visibility of its programs.

Adelaide University, formerly known as the University of Adelaide, presented its new vision following its recent transformation into a larger, merged institution. The university now aims to position itself among the top 100 universities globally and within the top 5 universities in Australia, targeting a student body of around 70,000 students. As part of its transformation, Adelaide University is redesigning its degree programs to ensure graduates are highly employable and socially impactful.

The delegation highlighted five signature research areas at Adelaide University:

  1. Creative and Culture

  2. Defence and National Strategy

  3. Food, Agriculture, and Wine

  4. Personal and Societal Health

  5. Sustainable Green Transition

Both universities discussed potential future collaborations, including joint degree programs, joint PhD initiatives, and scholarship opportunities. UI emphasized the importance of mutual benefit and the contribution of student exchanges to its goal of achieving broader international recognition. Adelaide University also shared that scholarship opportunities are available for students based on academic merit (GPA), and that the university aims to have one-third of its student population comprised of international students.

Additionally, the meeting explored the possibility of guest lectures at Universitas Indonesia in November or April, further enhancing academic exchange and networking between the two institutions.

Looking ahead, both universities agreed to renew and sign a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2026, reflecting Adelaide University’s new institutional structure and the deepening partnership between the two universities.
