
Universitas Indonesia (UI) welcomed a high-level delegation from Tianjin University (TJU), China, to discuss opportunities for expanding academic collaboration, research partnerships, and student mobility between the two leading institutions.

During the meeting, both universities discussed a wide range of collaborative opportunities, with particular emphasis on engineering, technology, and interdisciplinary innovation. Tianjin University—renowned for its strengths in Chemical Engineering, Architecture, and Artificial Intelligence—expressed its interest in expanding cooperation with UI through various initiatives, including:
Joint and dual degree programs at the bachelor, master, and doctoral levels
Student exchange and short course programs, featuring 4–5 themed courses annually for 1–2 weeks, involving approximately 15 students
Joint supervision for postgraduate students
Industrial visit and internship programs through the Tianjin Enterprise Internship Program
Joint research projects and technology development collaborations
Tianjin Emerging Engineering Education and TJU Proposal 2.0, focusing on project-based learning, talent development, and industry professorships
Tianjin University also introduced its range of scholarship opportunities for international students:
Chinese Government Scholarship, covering tuition, accommodation, living expenses, and insurance;
Local Government Scholarship, covering tuition and living expenses; and
University Scholarship, providing partial or full coverage of tuition, accommodation, living expenses, and insurance.
The two institutions agreed to follow up on several key initiatives, including:
Increasing the number of student mobility programs between UI and TJU;
Strengthening joint research collaborations across disciplines;
Developing short-term academic programs proposed by UI’s Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA); and
Exploring industry collaborations under UI’s Directorate of Innovation and Science Techno Park (DISTP).
This meeting marks an important step toward strengthening Indonesia–China academic and research ties, promoting innovation, and supporting global talent development through sustainable higher education partnerships.
