Graduate School of Sustainable Development (Master’s Program)

The Graduate School of Sustainable Development (SPPB) / Graduate School of Sustainable Development (GSSD) of the University of Indonesia (based on Decree No. 1417/SK/R/UI/2025), carries the theme Unifying Vision, Ensuring Sustainability reflecting the spirit of collaboration, innovation, and academic leadership that is the hallmark of this school. With strong leadership and support from all stakeholders, the Graduate School of Sustainable Development will be a driver of positive change in Indonesia and the global stage.
 
Being a student at the Graduate School of Sustainable Development (SPPB) means being part of a global movement to build a better future for people and the planet. At SPPB, learning focuses not only on theory but also on real-world practices to address complex development challenges—from climate change and social inequality to natural resource governance.
 
SPPB offers a multidisciplinary education that combines social sciences, economics, environmental sciences, and public policy. Students will be mentored by experienced lecturers and practitioners and have the opportunity to collaborate on research and community service projects with direct impact.

Master's in Environmental Science

A study program that produces Masters who are able to develop knowledge in the field of environmental science and are able to conduct (manage) research and are able to identify and solve problems in the field of environmental science through interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches, and are able to write and disseminate the results of their research to the community.

Master's in Disaster Management

The Master of Disaster Management (MMB) program at the Universitas Indonesia is a postgraduate program focused on developing the science and practice of integrated disaster management. The program aims to produce graduates competent in disaster mitigation, response, and recovery through a holistic, research-based, and sustainable approach.

A Master of Disaster Management graduate is able to develop disaster control efforts through the stages of disaster management, especially during pre-disaster; able to develop science and technology and disaster management models including pre-disaster, emergency response, and post-disaster; and able to develop research and community service including studies of natural, artificial, social, and
community capacity vulnerabilities using a holistic systems thinking paradigm and a sustainability approach.

Master's in National Resilience Studies

The National Resilience Studies Program was established in 1983 in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Education and Culture. This program examines aspects of national resilience that occur and can disrupt the life of society, the nation, and the state using a multi- and interdisciplinary approach. PKN has received accreditation certificates based on the decisions of BAN PT since 2002 (Excellent), 2014–2019 (A), 2020–2025 (A), 2025–2030 (Excellent). PKN graduates approximately 2,000 people.

Master's in Police Science Studies

Police science is a field of science that studies social problems and important issues as well as the management of social and moral order in society, efforts to enforce law and justice, techniques for investigating and investigating various crimes and ways to prevent them.

Master's in Terrorism Studies

The Terrorism Studies Program is the only master’s program in Indonesia that offers an analytical framework for understanding the development of radicalism, extremism, and terrorism. The Terrorism Studies Program also examines counterterrorism policy, so the courses in this program are divided into three sections: Conceptual and Theoretical Frameworks, Understanding Policy, and Explanations of Case Studies.

Master's in Gender Studies

The Gender Studies Program examines various multi- and interdisciplinary studies related to issues of the body and sexuality, reproductive health, gender and politics, gender and environmental anthropology, gender psychology, gender and culture, gender and access to justice, gender and religion, and also the inequalities experienced by other marginalized groups.

Master's in Urban Development Studies

This program examines the rapid urban development across various regions. Amidst increasing connectivity between countries, regions, and islands, new growth centers are emerging, requiring thorough analysis and planning. The program equips students with interdisciplinary expertise, evidence-based research skills, and insights into inclusive and sustainable development to understand, anticipate, and design solutions to various urban issues.

Master's in European Regional Studies

The SPPB-UI European Regional Studies Study Program is a Master’s Program that focuses on the study and exploration of European issues, both the European Union and its member states, including the European region in a broader territorial context. In this master’s program, lecturers, researchers, and students conduct academic activities in the form of teaching or education and research using multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary approaches.

Master's in Islamic Middle East Regional Studies

This study program studies knowledge and information about the Middle East and Islam, makes important recommendations as a basis for making Indonesian foreign policy in the Middle East, studies Islam from its perspective on politics, economics, psychology, and culture.

Master's in Japanese Regional Studies

The Japanese Regional Studies Study Program, Graduate School of Sustainable Development, University of Indonesia is a higher education institution that aims to produce Masters of Science who are experts in the field of Japanese studies, who are effective in meeting Societal needs, Workplace needs, Professional needs, and Scientific needs.
