
Universitas Indonesia (UI) hosted an official visit from Gaziantep University, Türkiye, to formalize their partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and to discuss future collaboration in education, research, and academic mobility.

The meeting began with welcoming remarks from Dr. Fadhilah Muslim, who introduced the UI delegation and outlined the meeting’s main objective: the signing of an MoU that would serve as a foundation for long-term academic cooperation between UI and GU.
Prof. Mahmud presented an overview of Universitas Indonesia, which operates from two campuses in Depok and Jakarta. With over 50,000 students across 14 faculties, UI is currently ranked 189th in the QS World University Rankings 2026. He emphasized UI’s strong commitment to expanding international partnerships to strengthen its global academic presence.
In response, Prof. Dr. Sait Mesut Doğan provided an overview of Gaziantep University, one of the top 10 universities in Türkiye. GU currently serves more than 55,000 students, including 7,000 international students, and operates 22 faculties offering programs in English, Arabic, and Turkish. GU is actively engaged in international collaborations across Europe and Asia and is eager to strengthen academic ties with institutions in Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia.
Prof. Dr. Hamdi Muluk highlighted UI’s research capabilities, which are organized into several interdisciplinary clusters covering basic, applied, and industrial research. He extended an invitation to GU to explore collaborative research opportunities within these clusters.
Prof. Fahrettin Göğüş proposed initiating a matchmaking process between researchers at both universities to explore joint research projects, publications, and academic events.
Prof. Supriatna from the School of Strategic and Global Studies expressed UI’s readiness to implement collaborative activities outlined in the MoU and emphasized the importance of taking immediate steps toward realization.
Dr. Fuad Ghani encouraged further discussions around social science themes, including gender, global resilience, and area studies, and welcomed Turkish students to consider UI for study and research opportunities.
Dr. Fadhilah also introduced UI’s English-taught international class programs and student mobility schemes. She noted that UI actively participates in Erasmus+ and other international mobility frameworks and welcomed GU lecturers to participate in guest lectures and faculty exchanges. She also highlighted available funding mechanisms to support student exchanges.
The meeting concluded with the signing of the MoU, symbolizing a shared commitment to advancing academic excellence through collaborative programs in education, research, and innovation.
