Forging Strategic Global Impact Through Research and Education

Tsinghua University shared its ambitions to enhance global research impact, especially in energy transition, biomedical innovation, intelligence systems, and tumor population studies. Their forward-thinking approach includes encouraging faculty innovation, with support for patent ownership, and fostering student entrepreneurship.

Existing collaborations between UI and Tsinghua were reviewed, including joint research, student and faculty exchanges, and publications in areas such as:

  • Genomics and vaccine development

  • Artificial intelligence for medical applications

  • Public health innovation and affordable care

  • AI Agent Hospital initiatives

A proposed joint international conference on science, technology, and innovation in Jakarta was also discussed, along with opportunities for campus visits and lab-based engagement across China.

Advancing Academic Programs and the Asian Universities Alliance

A major agenda item was the development of a collaborative academic program, potentially a double-degree program, in alignment with the Asian Universities Alliance (AUA), which comprises 50 universities from 14 countries. This program aims to integrate into the regular curriculum and is tentatively scheduled to launch in 2026, pending further discussions during an upcoming symposium in October.

The initiative reflects shared interests in advancing:

  • Graduate mobility in areas like tropical medicine, sustainability, and AI

  • Research seminars and exchange-based symposia

  • Faculty development and joint proposal writing

  • New MBA and professional development programs

  • Renewable energy and pharmaceutical research

Commitment to Continued Partnership

Both parties expressed strong enthusiasm for continued cooperation and concrete follow-up actions. Universitas Indonesia reaffirmed its role as a strategic partner for high-impact academic collaboration in the region.
