Universitas Indonesia welcomed a delegation from Chiba University to strengthen their long-standing partnership—established in 2002—by exploring expansive academic collaborations, joint research, and enhanced student mobility. This strategic dialogue focused on organizing high-impact educational exhibitions and optimizing joint mobility programs to empower the academic communities of both institutions.

During the meeting, the delegation from Chiba University presented a comprehensive proposal to host a series of strategic educational events scheduled for September 1-3. These initiatives are designed to promote postgraduate programs to UI students, host an extensive joint education fair featuring seven National Universities from the Kanto-Koshinetsu region, and conduct targeted outreach programs for local high schools. These efforts aim to significantly increase the number of Indonesian students studying at Chiba University while optimizing the role of the Chiba University Indonesia International Exchange Center (IEC) located at UI. UI expressed strong support for these initiatives, noting that coordination with the Faculty of Engineering as the host is already actively underway.
A major highlight of the discussion was the proposed 2027 International Summer Camp, an entrepreneurship-focused program taught in English. UI welcomed this initiative but recommended adjusting the duration to a minimum of four weeks to align with UI’s internal funding requirements. To further boost student participation, UI also suggested the implementation of joint scholarships or fee-reduction schemes. Chiba University received these recommendations positively, opening pathways for collaborative scholarship selections and program adjustments.
The meeting concluded with a highly structured action plan for the immediate implementation of the September events. Both universities agreed to finalize internal coordination, issue official invitations, and arrange a Courtesy Visit to UI’s Rector, alongside an Opening Ceremony involving the leadership of the participating Kanto-Koshinetsu universities. Both parties reaffirmed their mutual commitment to continuously strengthening their robust, two-decade-long alliance through advanced student mobility, joint research, and the development of future double degree programs.
