The program features masterclasses delivered by University of Melbourne academics, Indigenous cultural learning sessions, and interdisciplinary study streams aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Working in multicultural teams, participants develop practical responses to sustainability and resilience challenges affecting the Asia-Pacific region through a combination of classroom learning, collaborative projects, and field visits across Melbourne.
The program is supported by the Victorian Government’s Yes to International Students Fund and takes place in Melbourne, ranked Australia’s No. 1 and the world’s No. 5 student city in the QS Best Student Cities Rankings 2026.
Nadirania Alisha Nugraha, a student from the Faculty of Administrative Sciences and one of UI’s representatives in the program, shared that participating in Melbourne Winter School has provided valuable insights into interdisciplinary approaches to sustainability and innovation.
“Being a part of the Melbourne Winter School at the University of Melbourne has been a genuinely valuable experience. Beyond the chance to explore a new city, the program has given me real insight into how AI is applied across industries; from engineering consulting to government and infrastructure. It has reinforced that AI is a tool already integrated into cross-sector decision-making.”
Meanwhile, Hafshah Nur Fadilah from the Faculty of Humanities highlighted the opportunity to learn from participants representing different countries and academic disciplines:
“I am grateful to Universitas Indonesia and The University of Melbourne for providing this valuable opportunity. Although the program is short, every experience has been meaningful. Beyond exploring the beautiful city of Melbourne, I have had the opportunity to exchange perspectives, and contribute to conversations on sustainability alongside inspiring people from across the region. Thank you for creating such a valuable experience and for making learning go far beyond the classroom. Keep up the amazing work, UI!”
As one of Indonesia’s leading universities, Universitas Indonesia continues to strengthen its global engagement by expanding international mobility opportunities and strategic partnerships with universities worldwide. Being selected as one of partner universities for the first Melbourne Winter School underscores UI’s growing regional standing and its commitment to producing globally minded graduates equipped to address regional and global challenges while representing Indonesia on the international stage.
