Fukui University is accepting nominations for the Japanese Government (MEXT) scholarship candidate from partner universities, especially those with which we have an inter-university Academic Agreement, and which have a history of research and other exchanges with Fukui University.
The MEXT Scholarship provides scholarships (tuition and living expenses) to outstanding international students from abroad. After screening candidates for the MEXT Scholarship (research students), Fukui University will recommend two candidates from Fukui University to the MEXT.

Research students: Students who enroll as research students (non-degree students) at Fukui University for six months to a maximum of 18 months. During the period as a research student, the candidate will take the entrance examination and enter our degree program after passing the examination.
- Applicant qualifications and conditions:
(1) Eligibility: An excellent applicant who will recently come to Japan to study as an international student at the graduate school level.
(2) Age: Must be born on or after April 2, 1989
(3) Language Proficiency: Applicant must submit an official certificate of proficiency in English or Japanese. (For details on language requirements, please refer to the website below.)

(4) Records of exchange: Applicant must have a letter of recommendation to the president of our university from the dean of the graduate school (or head of the department or higher) of the applicant’s home university that has an Academic Agreement with our university or another university with which there have been academic exchanges.
(5) Nationality: Applicant must have the nationality of a country that has diplomatic relations with, and is in the list of priority regions of, the Japanese government.

- Transcript of Academic Records from the home university
- Certificate of Graduation (Completion) or Degree Certificate from the home university
- Documents certifying that the applicant’s GPA is 2.30 (on a 3.00 scale) or higher at the last university attended
- A letter of recommendation (addressed to the president of the University of Fukui) from the dean of the graduate school (or head of the department or higher) of the home university
- Outline of the thesis or dissertation, etc
- References of research achievements
- Documents that support the fulfillment of one of the language requirements
- Certificate of health examination (in the form of the University of Fukui)

The following amounts are awarded according to the program in which the student is enrolled. The amount may change from year to year. Scholarship will not be granted to students who take.
a leave of absence or are absent from the university for a long period of time.
(1) Research student (non-degree students): 143,000 yen/month
(2) Master’s / professional degree program: 144,000 yen/month
(2) Doctoral program: 145,000 yen/month
Due to the recommendation quota of the MEXT Scholarship, Fukui University may not be able to accept as the MEXT Scholarship student. Fukui University plans to inform the nominee of other scholarships inside and outside the university. Fukui University would appreciate your understanding in this matter. The results of the internal selection will be notified around mid-February.

In the recommendation letter, please indicate:
- The Outbound Exchange Scheme that your faculty supports and acknowledges. (only online or only offline or both online and offline schemes are supported and acknowledged)
- The student will not graduate from UI until the exchange program is completed.
- Academic credits earned from exchange programs abroad can be converted/transferred to UI.
